Education

The NPSNM currently has eight chapters (including one from Texas) that work to promote the objectives of the organization, and educate the local population so they might better understand their regional flora through field trips, lectures, plant sales and seed exchanges. The talents, interests and skills of chapter members greatly influence the activities and programs offered.

Many chapters schedule activities during the year and visitors are always welcome. Check out the Local Chapters link on the left hand menu bar.

Recent Workshops

September 2008 - Native Plant Society of New Mexico - Grasses of New Mexico Workshop

NPSNM's first statewide workshop in many years drew a crowd of 21 participants from around the state. The two-day Grasses of New Mexico workshop, in Los Alamos in August, attracted lots of attention and popular demand for a repeat. The course was taught by Kelly Allred of NM State University, the recognized expert on NM grasses, and society president Chick Keller. Basics of keying grasses occupied the first day, while the second included field trips to an arid mesa and the moist East Fork of the Jemez River. More lab time gave students a chance to identify field samples.
